THE ICE Bachelor Scholarship in Tourism and Hospitality

The International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE) is an Australian government initiative to encourage excellence in tourism and hospitality education. We offer scholarship grants to international students who wish to study tourism and hospitality in Australia at THE-ICE member institutions. Our member’s programs have been independently assessed by an international panel and successfully met THE-ICE Standards of Excellence , which were especially developed to endorse high quality tourism, hospitality and event programs. Scholarship applicants can choose from over 60 programs in tourism business management, hotel/resort management, sport/event tourism or ecotourism.

Scholarship grants are offered on the basis of excellence for Masters, Bachelor and Diploma level studies commencing in Semester 1, 2008. Choose from the programs listed below. All information regarding conditions of award eligibility and selection criteria is included on the application form which can be downloaded by entering your details in the Start Here section at left, then click the application download and any program links listed below to view details.

Australian Leadership Awards Scholarships

The Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) - Scholarships are a component of the Australian Leadership Awards, a regional program under the Australian Scholarships initiative. Australian Leadership Awards aim to develop leadership, build partnerships and linkages with the Asia-Pacific.

They are intended for those who are already leaders or have the potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes, both in their own countries and in the Asia-Pacific region. The ALA program comprises of Scholarships and Fellowships.

ALA Scholarships are academically prestigious awards offered to high achievers from the Asia-Pacific region each year to undertake postgraduate study (Masters or Doctorate) and a Leadership Training Program in Australia.

Selection for ALA Scholarships is highly competitive, based on leadership qualities and on academic excellence.

ALA Scholarships are an investment in the future of the Asia-Pacific region. In this regard, ALA scholars are therefore required to return to their home country or the region for two years after they have completed their studies.

In future years, ALA scholars will belong to a unique group - the Australian Scholarships Alumni - a network that will maintain strong and enduring links to Australia. Managed by AusAID as part of Australia's overseas aid program, ALA Scholarships are open only to citizens of countries in the Asia-Pacific region with which Australia has an significant aid program.
Objectives of ALA Scholarships

ALA Scholarships aim to:

* develop a cadre of leaders advancing regional reform, development and governance
* increase exchange of knowledge and information within the region
* build common purpose and understanding between Australia and the region
* build capacity to address priority regional issues
* build effective networks between Australia and the region
* demonstrate the benefits of Australian education through the provision of high quality education.

Fields of study

Awards are open to all fields of study, however, study programs that relate to the priority themes of international trade, pandemics, security and climate change, including clean energy are encouraged. Scholarships are not available for military training, or training in areas related to nuclear technology and flying aircraft.
Levels of study

An ALA Scholarship enables candidates to undertake studies leading to a Masters or Doctorate degree in Australia. It does not include Graduate Diplomas, with the exception of those Masters courses that require the completion of a Graduate Diploma as part of the Masters degree.
Who should apply

Outstanding applicants with:

* a very high level of academic achievement at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
* a high level of English language proficiency
* demonstrated leadership potential and good prospects to influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes in their home country and in the Asia-Pacific region
* a commitment to participate in Australian Scholarships alumni activities on their return home.

Scholarship benefits

An ALA Scholarship has a total value of up to A$130,000 for Masters degrees and A$250,000 for Doctoral programs, not including provisions for leadership training. Benefits include:

* Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of the award (for award holder only).

Participating Higher Education Institutions

INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP IN EDUCATION PROGRAM (ILEP)

PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT

The International Leadership in Education Program (ILEP) is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, and is implemented by IREX (the International Research & Exchanges Board), a Washington, DC based non-profit organization. ILEP will provide 52 teachers from the Near East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States. The program will consist of a semester-long academic program at a U.S. university, including coursework and intensive training in teaching methodologies, curriculum development, teaching strategies for their home environment, educational leadership, as well as the use of computers for Internet, word processing and as tools for teaching. The semester-long program, which will commence in January 2008 and conclude in June 2008, will also include an internship at a secondary school to engage participants actively with the American teachers and students. Trips to U.S. cultural sites and academic support will be provided for participants throughout the program.


ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS MUST BE:

• Secondary-level, full-time teachers with five or more years of classroom disciplines including:

o English as a Foreign Language;

o Social Studies;

o Civics;

o Mathematics; or

o Science.

• Citizens of the Republic of Indonesia

• Have English-language proficiency in written and spoken English.



THE FELLOWSHIP PROVIDES:

• J-1 visa support;

• A pre-departure orientation held in participant’s home country;

• Round-trip airfare to and within the U.S.;

• A Welcome Orientation in Washington, D.C.;

• Academic program fees;

• Housing (generally shared with other program fellows);

• Accident and sickness insurance;

• A daily allowance for meals and incidentals during the university academic program;

• A laptop computer;

• A $200 book/professional development allowance;

IFC-FT Essay Competition

The International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group (IFC) and the Financial Times (FT) are pleased to jointly announce their second annual Essay Competition. This year's theme is "Private Sector Development: Creating Markets, Transforming Lives."

The Competition is soliciting action-oriented essays that:

* Provide insight into current Private Sector Development (PSD) research
* Develop and support the implementation of leading-edge PSD initiatives
* Strike a balance between conceptual and practical considerations for private-sector involvement in developing countries, and the effect of that involvement on development
* Reflect innovative, data-supported research resulting from the author’s own professional or academic work
* Target economic & financial policymakers, the international financial community and/or international domestic investors


Six awards will be granted to the top papers as judged by the Awards Committee:

scholarship opportunity for educators

The Savannah College of Art and Design has a special scholarship opportunity for educators. Educators who are employed full-time at the time of application and who teach at the kindergarten through college level at a public or private institution recognized by the applicant's state department of education may be eligible to receive a scholarship/fellowship for half the amount of SCAD's tuition.

To be eligible, an educator must apply and be accepted to SCAD and provide proof of employment and good standing from his or her school administrator or human resources department. The scholarship/fellowship is renewable, provided that the recipient remains a full-time, degree-seeking student in the chosen program and maintains a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. SCAD e-Learning students who cannot enroll full-time due to course limitations, may have the fellowship prorated for the highest number of classes in which the student is enrolled. Recipients are expected to assume a positive student leadership role by excelling in classes, by contributing to a sense of community and unity within the college, and by interacting with other students and employees of the college in a courteous, cooperative manner. The award amounts are disbursed equally to each quarter's expenses.

Students also may be eligible for scholarships from alternative sources and funding from a variety of lending institutions. Monash Fellowships 2008

Monash University has established the Monash Fellowships to attract internationally competitive researchers to undertake research of national and international significance (including young researchers from overseas with great future potential) and provide them with the best possible environment to establish a productive laboratory or other research team and to foster collaborations.
The Fellowships will be in the form of a direct appointment in 2008 following a Monash-conducted competitive process (open to researchers from outside Monash University only). The Fellowships are tenable only at Monash University and it is expected that most of the time will be spent at the relevant Monash department/centre.
Up to four (4) awards will be made.
Eligibility
Applicants must not hold a current position at Monash University (including casual/ sessional appointments) at the time of application and/or during the selection process of the Monash Fellowships Program.
Applicants, who have spent considerable time at Monash University prior to their application submission, completing their PhD and/or being employed, may not be eligible.


Applicants may be a citizen of any country, but in order to be eligible to accept the offer of a Monash Fellowship he/she must obtain the appropriate visa as required by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
Applicants will normally have not less than two and not more than eight years of post-doctoral experience as at 1 September 2007, calculated from the date of submission of PhD thesis. This may be full-time employment or part-time equivalent, and should be at or above Academic Level A or equivalent. Applicants who have experienced a major interruption to their research career (such as maternity leave or illness) since the submission of their PhD thesis must explain this in their application.
Applicants must demonstrate excellent research outcomes at international level.
Funding
Successful applicants will be awarded up to $AUD160,000 per annum (comprising a salary, including on-costs, in the Research Fellow Level B range, currently $AUD67, 818 - $AUD80, 535 per annum, including on-costs and a research support grant of up to $AUD50,000 per annum, for 5 years). A starting salary within this range may be negotiated and will usually be dependent upon the number of years of postdoctoral research experience.
Costs will be shared - 50% central funds, 25% faculty funds and 25% departmental funds. The Fellow’s Faculty/Department/School is responsible for providing research accommodation and access to facilities and services necessary for the Fellow’s research program.
Any Fellow who subsequently secures externally funded salary support would retain a research support grant of up to $50,000 per annum for the remainder of the term of his/her Monash Fellowship. The cost sharing between central, faculty and departmental funds will continue.
Removals costs and return economy air fares will be paid, for Fellow plus partner and dependent children, in accordance with University policy, with the cost shared in the same way as the salary. UniSuper superannuation benefits are available upon appointment.
Prior to submitting the application, applicants should contact the Head of the Department/School/Centre in which they propose to undertake the research to discuss the proposed project and obtain a list of the research priorities for the proposed faculty.

Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

The Department of Environmental Assessment is a centre for freshwater and forest soil research with a special focus on environmental monitoring and assessment. The department also performs teaching and gives expert support to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, SEPA. At present the department consists of some 65 employees; ca 25 of which are senior and post-doc scientists and some 10 PhD students. The department is divided into four research sections: geochemistry, biodiversity, organic environmental pollutants and modelling, and covers program areas such as (i) environmental monitoring and assessment, (ii) environmental pollutants, and (iii) integrated catchment monitoring. We now would like to enlarge our research group by announcing a Ph D Student position in aquatic biogeochemistry.Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is a key determinant of water quality that is strongly influenced by climate. The doctoral student’s research will seek to bridge the gulf between a high-resolution, process oriented understanding of DOC’s terrestrial origins in the boreal forest, and long term, landscape scale monitoring data in order to better understand the implications of climate change for DOC in aquatic ecosystems. The project will create a model framework for upscaling from hillslope processes. Fieldwork on the Krycklan Catchment in Västerbotten will be used to test key hypotheses. We seek for a dedicated candidate with a degree in environmental science or engineering. Specialization in biogeochemistry is desirable.PhD study programmes leading to a doctorate include a minimum of four years of full-time studies after your undergraduate degree. Southeast Asian Studies Regional Exchange Program (SEASREP)

The SEASREP Foundation in Manila administers this program, which is jointly funded by the Toyota Foundation and the Japan Foundation. The program supports studies on Southeast Asia by Southeast Asians in the field of social sciences and humanities and aims to encourage cross-national studies and develop cross-national expertise in the region. The program has three subprograms: (a) Southeast Asian language training; (b) Luisa Mallari Fellowship for M.A./Ph.D. research in Southeast Asian studies; and (c) Comparative and collaborative research grants.
(1) Southeast Asian Language Training Grants

These grants allow graduate students or faculty members to study a Southeast Asian national or local language other than her/his own. Such study is intended to enable the applicant to carry out library or field research. The grants cover tuition fee and other expenses for language training in another Southeast Asian country for a period of four to 12 months.
(2) The Luisa Mallari Fellowships for MA/PhD Research in Southeast Asian Studies

These grants, named after the late Filipino scholar of Malaysian literature and who was also a former SEASREP grantee, allows currently enrolled graduate students to carry out library or field research on a Southeast Asian country other than their own or on a comparative topic involving two or more Southeast Asian countries. Applicants who have acquired doctoral candidacy may also apply for limited and short-term exploratory grants to conduct preliminary research leading to full dissertation proposal. In highly meritorious cases, full Ph.D. study grant are also offered. The grants cover research costs, tuition, and living expenses.
(3) Comparative and Collaborative Research Grants

These grants support international collaborative research, comparative research, and other activities that contribute to strengthening Southeast Asian studies in Southeast Asia. Priority is given to basic scholarly research rather than policy-oriented research. Projects involving two- or multi-country collaboration are evaluated highly.
The grants support projects in the following categories:

(A) Research - whether individual research or collaborative team research - by Southeast Asian scholars in the humanities and social sciences that focuses on countries other than the researchers' own. The research may focus on one country (as long as it is not the researcher's own), involve cross-national comparisons (which may include the researcher's own country), or examine a regional theme, issue or problem.

(B)These grants support international collaborative research, comparative research, and other activities that contribute to strengthening Southeast Asian studies in Southeast Asia. Priority is given to basic scholarly research rather than policy-oriented research. Projects involving two- or multi-country collaboration are evaluated highly.
The grants support projects in the following categories:

(C)Conferences, workshops and seminars on pioneering or innovative topics in the field of Southeast Asian studies. These meetings may also aim to disseminate in the region the results of research in Southeast Asian studies conducted by Southeast Asian scholars.

(D)Invitations to a Southeast Asian expert in the region (i) to give a series of short-term (2-3 week) intensive lectures, (ii) to help develop a research project collaboratively with scholars at the host institution, or (iii) for both purposes (i) and (ii).

(E) Publication of the results of SEASREP-supported research.
Criteria and Eligibility

Subprogram (1) is open to Southeast Asian graduate students and faculty in the humanities or social sciences affiliated with a Southeast Asian university, below 40 years, and residing in the region; Subprogram (2) is open to Southeast Asian graduate students in the humanities or social sciences currently enrolled in a university in Southeast Asia residing in the region under the age of 40; Subprogram (3) (A) and (B) are open to any Southeast Asian scholar or team of scholars in the humanities or social sciences residing in the region with priority given to applicants from universities or research institutions; Subprogram (3) (C) is open to any humanities or social science department at any university in the region that offers Southeast Asian studies courses; Subprogram (3)(D) is solely for those who have previously received SEASREP grants.

The Northcote Graduate Scholarship scheme is administered by the Menzies Centre for Australian Studies, King's College London, on behalf of the Northcote Children's Emigration Fund.

Scholarships are to enable students normally resident in the United Kingdom to undertake a higher degree at an Australian university for a period of up to three years. Applicants must ascertain their eligibility for an Australian graduate programme. There are no limitations as to the field of study. The scholarship will provide economy class return air fares to Australia, payment of compulsory fees and charges at an Australian university and an inclusive allowance of around A$20,000 per annum. Successful candidates must make the outward journey within the first calendar year of the award being granted.

Applications must be supported by:
a) a statement from the applicant on the nature of the proposed course and/or the research project/dissertation (approximately 2 sides of A4);
b) two references from persons in a position to assess the academic potential and character of the candidate;
c) a statement from the host institution in Australia indicating that the research can be appropriately pursued there, and that the candidate is eligible for admission, and has been given provisional acceptance;
d) a statement demonstrating why the study must be undertaken in Australia;
e) a curriculum vitae.

Candidates are asked to ensure that applications are appropriate to the scholarship's aims and provisions and that all requested details, with suitable headings, are included.

Neither the Fund's Trustees nor King's College London can entertain providing successful candidates with funds over and above the research award or for more than three years. Scholars must make their own arrangements for health or other insurance cover. Scholars will be required to submit a yearly report on research progress and expenditure under the grant, with a supporting statement from their Australian supervisors. Continuation of the grant will depend on satisfactory reports. A comprehensive report on completion of the programme of study is also expected.

The Asian Development – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP)

The Asian Development – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) offers opportunities to talented individuals from its developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies with the support of the above scholarship program funded by the Government of Japan.

To be eligible to apply for the ADBJSP,candidates must have been admitted to one of the following programs approved by ADB at the University of Sydney:

* Master of Economics (March entry only)
* Master of Commerce or Master of International Business
* Master of Transport Management
* Master of International Public Health
* Master of Engineering Studies (Civil, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering only).

University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USIRS)

The University of Sydney invites candidates who are eligible to undertake a Postgraduate Research Degree or Master's by Research program at this University to apply for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USIRS).

The objective of the USIRS is to attract top quality international postgraduate students to undertake research projects which will enhance the University's research activities. The USIRS is open to all research disciplines, however participation in the USIRS program each semester is at the discretion of the Dean of each faculty. These scholarships will be awarded to eligible applicants during the selection process for the Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarhsip (EIPRS).

The USIRS will cover tuition fees and living allowance for up to three years with a possibility of one semester's extension for PhD students.

Applicants who wish to be considered for the EIPRS and USIRS awards for semester 1, 2008 may indicate this by completing the relevant section of the Postgraduate Research Application form. To be considered for an award for semester 1, 2008 applications for admission to a research degree MUST be received by the International Office by 31 July 2007.

the Macquarie University International Scholarship (MUIS)

Who can apply?

Applicants must

* Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand.
* Have met the University's academic and English requirements for the course to be considered for a scholarship (must hold a FULL OFFER by the application deadline).
* Have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) for Postgraduate applications and minimum requirement of 90 (out of 100) for Undergraduate applications.

You are not eligible if

* You are a citizen of Australia or New Zealand, or hold permanent residency of Australia.
* You are currently enrolled at Macquarie University for a program which is equivalent in level.
* You have undertaken the same level of study previously.
* You are currently enrolled in the program that you apply the MUIS for.
* You are in receipt of another equivalent or major award or scholarship.
* You are a Study Abroad or an Exchange student coming to Macquarie University.


What does MUIS cover?

Macquarie University International Scholarships are available across most courses to cover international tuition fees for study on campus in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree.

Scholarships will be granted to cover the credit points required to complete a single undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

The scholarship provides course fees for the minimum course duration. No additional allowances are payable. The scholarship does NOT provide financial support in the form of a living allowance, nor does it provide for the cost of visa application, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), airfares, accommodation, conferences or other costs associated with study. Annual renewal of the MUIS is subject to satisfactory performance in the Macquarie University degree program.

PhD Course Scholarship at NIPS, Okazaki, Japan

Introduction

The Department of Physiological Sciences, University of Advanced Studies (Sokendai) is operated by the National Institute for Physiological Sciences (NIPS) at Okazaki (http://www.nips.ac.jp/eng/). NIPS consists of 19 divisions dedicated to the study of the physiological functions of living organisms including humans. Research areas cover various physiological sciences including morphology, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular and cellular biology, and information science. Research activities are extensive and comprehensive. Some of our current research involves the molecular structure of ion channels, intracellular dynamics of ions, mechanisms of secretion and cell volume regulation, development and differentiation of neuronal cells, mechanisms of synaptic transmission and neural network formation, and higher brain functions such as processing of sensory information, motor control, learning, and cognition.

To carry out the mission of the institute as a cooperative center for universities and research institutes within and outside Japan, we accept many visiting scientists from all around the world for collaborative projects

NIPS Scholarships

Four types of scholarships are possible at NIPS.

The first type of scholarship is the "University Recommendation" MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship. Each year, at least one "University Recommendation" candidate is selected for the 5-year combined Master's/Ph.D. program, which starts in October. Please note that this scholarship cannot be held in conjunction with other awards or scholarships. Students wishing to apply for this scholarship should make sure that they discuss their application with their prospective supervisor at NIPS. The MEXT scholarship covers the following:

* Application fee (30,000 yen)
* Admission fee (282,000 yen, payable only the first year of study)
* Annual tuition fee (535,800 yen per year)
* Return economy-class airfare between Okazaki and the student's home country
* Monthly stipend (172,000 yen)

The second type of scholarship is a Seiriken Scholarship. Exceptional students wishing to enter 5-year and 3-year Ph.D. programs at NIPS are eligible to apply for this type of scholarship. It covers the admission fee and the annual tuition fees for successful applicants. Further information can be obtained from scholar@nips.ac.jp

The third type of scholarship is an "Embassy Recommendation" MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship. Through this system, a certain number of 5-year combined Master's/Ph.D. scholarships are awarded annually. Applications should be made through Japanese embassies/consulates in the applicant's home country. (Please note that this application procedure is different from the "University Recommendation" MEXT Scholarships noted above.) Applications are open to candidates of any nationality except Japan, and the scholarship details are the same as those noted above. Eligibility

In general, candidates must have completed (or be expected to obtain before starting study in NIPS) a bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized university for acceptance into the 5-year combined master's/Ph.D. Candidates wishing to enter the 3-year program must have completed a master's degree or equivalent from a recognized university. People who currently hold Ph.D. degrees are not eligible for any of the above scholarships.

Candidates must be well prepared for the course for which they are applying within the Department of Physiological Sciences. Those candidates who are not native speakers of English are required by the Board of Graduate Studies to provide the results of an English language test and are expected to meet the following standards of proficiency:

* TOEFL (paper-based test):
Minimum overall score of 600, with a minimum score of 5.0 in the TOEFL Test of Written English (TWE).
* TOEFL (computer-based test):
Minimum overall score of 250, with a minimum score of 5.0 in the essay writing section of the text.
* TOEFL (Internet-based test):
Minimum overall score of 100, with a minimum score of 24 in the writing section of the test.

How to Apply
It is essential to secure appropriate supervision before applying for the above scholarships. Therefore, your first step in applying for a scholarship should be to get in contact with at least one of the professors in NIPS (http://www.nips.ac.jp/eng/outline/pub/staff.html) to find out about any technical requirements as well as the range and depth of background knowledge that is needed by successful candidates for admission.

After you have made contact with an appropriate supervisor, please ask him/her to send an application form for the "University Recommendation" scholarship to you. Your application form must be completed and returned to the Board by 6 February 2008.

The Board of Graduate Studies at NIPS consults with the professors responsible for determining admission to the University about the respective merits of each applicant. On the basis of that consultation, applicants who are on the shortlist for the "University Recommendation" MEXT Ph.D. Scholarship will be invited to an interview at NIPS in February every year for the Ph.D. Program starting in October of the same year.
